Sir Walter Scott (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a prolific Scottish historical novelist and poet of his time. With readers from all European countries, Australia and North America, Scott is considered the first writer to have a truly international career to write in English during his lifetime. His novels and poems are still read and are considered classics of English and Scottish literature. Among his best-known works are Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of The Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian, Guy Mannering and The Bride of Lammermoor.
